Special Instructions
For Treadmill, Stress Echo, and Dobutamine Stress Echo
You may take your usual medicines, including inhalers, the morning of the test, unless your doctor gives you different instructions. If you are taking a beta-blocker or calcium-blocker medicine, your doctor may ask that you not take it. This medicine may inhibit your ability to obtain a high heart rate with exercise. Examples of these types of medicine include atenolol (Tenormin ®), Metoprolol (Lopressor ®, Toprol XL ®), and Verapamil (Calan ®). (Do not discontinue any medications without first consulting your doctor.) Dress comfortably for the stress test. You may eat food and drink liquids until 2 hours before your scheduled appointment time.
